This topic mainly deals with one of the most important chemical compounds viz. Acids and bases which serve important role both inside and outside the scientific laboratory as well as in our everyday life. Acids and bases play critical role in everything from digestion of the foods as well as in medicines we take along with several other applications. We cover right from the definition of the acids & bases up to concept of pH along with calculations involving pH.
Acids & bases are one of the most important chemical compounds of the entire chemistry they play very important role in the proper functioning of our body metabolism, functioning of various medicines & numerous day to day applications such as cleaning chemicals etc. In this topic, we get introduced to the important theories of acids & bases along with the classification viz, Strong & weak. We learn very important concept of pH in understanding the functioning of the acids & bases as well as calculations involving pH. Interestingly, we also discuss some misconceptions like Strength v/s Concentration of an acid, pH is not a measure of the strength of an acid etc which should be of immense help in clearing lot of doubts. Last but not the least, we discuss the problems associated with acid rain & few methods to mitigate these problems.
