A native of Prague, Jean-Baptiste Krumpholtz discovered his passion for the harp at a young age and, encouraged by Haydn, became one of the most renowned harpists in Paris. His innovations in harp making improved the sound of the harp, and his compositions were highly regarded by his contemporaries and long after his tragic death. The six sonatas en forme de scene, recorded together here for the first , follow the German empfindsamer style and use free form as a means for maximum expressive depth.
